A Closer look at PEAK

After spending two days in Tempe, Arizona, learning all about the PEAK: Relational Training System, I definitely feel like I have a much better understanding of not only what it is all about, but how to actually use it too! PEAK Level 1 Certification - Achieved! The workshop was very comprehensive, but didn't feel too rushed, which is great. Also, the venue, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Tempe - fantastic. Stay there, if you're ever in Tempe :) There is a lot of promising research about the effectiveness of this curriculum and assessment, which stands for Promoting the Emergence of Advanced Knowledge, and it's whole premise is to help learners "get there faster" by using relational frame tra

Back to School!

It's that time of year again! School is starting in NSW this week, so lots of excited (and probably worried) kids, parents, and teachers, getting straight back into it! Wishing everybody a great first week - hopefully meeting new teachers, and friends in your class, and setting up for a successful new year! Bring on term 1!

Essential for Living Skills Workshop Overview

I've just finished a long, but very interesting, two days at the Carbone Clinic, just outside of Boston, attending an Essential for Living Workshop. It was not only great to be able to finally understand the program, and how the assessment works (really, really amazing!), but it was wonderful to be in the presence of Dr. Pat McGreevy, who was a very engaging, yet laid back presenter (which is right up my alley!) Essential For Living Workshop, Boston. If you're unfamiliar with what exactly Essential for Living is, you can click on the link to visit the website, but I will give a very brief breakdown and overview here. Firstly, it is a way to decide a method of speaking for an individual. It h

Off on an Adventure!

So we've only really been back at it for less than two weeks, but I am off on a plane today, to head over to the States for some workshops (as a participant, which is going to be very strange for me!) I love finding out more about things I am interested in, and when I was at the ABAI conference in Chicago a few years ago, I first head about PEAK. There were plenty of presentations about its use, and effectiveness, in teaching skills to children with Autism. The presentations were packed - we were sitting on the floor, and there people were lining up, up to an hour before the presentations started! It definitely piqued my interest, so when I was looking to expand my knowledge on this program,

Right back into the swing of things!

Well it's the second week of the year for us, back into the mix of things, and it has been a very great start (😝)! It has been a very busy start to the year, as we have had new staff starting with us, as well as fitting in lots of sessions to see everyone after Christmas. It has been great to get into sessions for the new year, and make the most of the additional time during school holidays to work on skill building, and generalising skills. It has also been extremely beneficial to overlap with all the staff in sessions, and hear about the great ways they optimise opportunities for natural environment teaching. I'm off to the US on Wednesday, so I will miss everyone over the next few weeks,

Goals for 2018!

Happy New Year! As I was moving all my blog posts over to the website for my blog, I got to review my previous year's goals. It is nice to take a step back, and see the progress I have made. 2018 looks to be as big a year as previous ones, so I'm looking forward to all the hard work ahead of me. So, onto the goals! By the end of December, 2018, I will have obtained my BCBA certification. I am on my way! I am powering through supervision hours, with my awesome supervisor, and and enrolled for my last EVER course at FIT (which is filling me with mixed emotions - both sad, but also super happy :D) By the end of December 2018, I will have attended at least 3 conferences, including at least
